March 14.-16. The final days of the Abel Competition for high school students in Arendal. A collaboration between Tyholmen High School and University of Oslo

April 10.-14. Final days of "KappAbel" - a nationwide competition for 9th grade classes of secondary schools in Arendal og Froland. A collaboration between Froland Cultural Centre and NTNU.

June 5. The Norwegian Postal Service issues two new stamps marking the 200th Anniversary of Niels Henrik Abel

June 8.-9. "In AbelŐs footsteps" - a cultural travel to Gjerstad (where Abel grew up) and to Froland (where Abel died and where his grave is)
August 5. 200th Anniversary for the birth of Niels Henrik Abel. Birthday party at Froland with invited national and international guests.
September 2. The annual celebration at Oslo University will be devoted to the Abel Bicentennial. 10 honorary doctors of mathematics will be presented.
